Below is some Myrtle Beach area information that will help solidify your decision to live at the beach!
In the Myrtle Beach area we enjoy a humid subtropical climate based on international climate classifications. Who doesn’t enjoy that?! We enjoy very long summer seasons, with relatively short shoulder seasons and very short Winter. You can expect most of the annual rainfall to come towards the later middle part of the summer and into the early Autumn.
This area is primarily a tourism based economy. For those of you curious as to what that means, the biggest thing to understand is the uptick in population that the more heavily resort based areas receive in the Summer months. We enjoy over 12 million visitors annually to our sunny shores, and find that they truly do help contribute to our way of life. During the off season of course Myrtle Beach has substantially less tourism, but that’s just how we like it. A bit slower, more relaxed way of life. On the flip side of the tourist industry we do play host to several big name manufacturing companies such as Bausch Linneman of Germany, International Paper Products, Metglas, and Canfor Forest Products.
Myrtle Beach features a variety of transportation options. There are municipal airports in Conway, Georgetown, and North Myrtle Beach, as well as an International airport known as Myrtle Beach International in the heart of the City of Myrtle Beach. Our area features a small, currently out of service, freight railroad known as Carolina Southern. We also boast a public transit bus system known as Coast RTA(Regional Transit Authority). If you prefer something a bit more private, there are numerous taxi cab companies in the area, and Uber as of late has spread its wings into our market.
